without a Research Project

To find this sheet, go to brianwhitworth.com, then select the PostGrad tab.

This information sheet applies to students enrolled in a:

·        Postgraduate Certificate

1)     Postgraduate Certificate in Science (PGCertSc)

·        Postgraduate Diploma

1)     Postgraduate Diploma in Information Science (PGDipInfSc)

2)     Postgraduate Diploma in Business and Administration (PGDipBusAdmin)

where the student does not complete a research project.

Students enrolled in an Honors degree, or doing a Postgraduate Diploma with a research project, see the with a research project information sheet.
Note: All students intending to go on to a Masters Degree should do a Diploma with a research project.

POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA (PGDip)

PG Diploma students without a research project take eight taught papers in advanced topics in Information Systems. See Table below for offered papers.

Up to 25% of the Diploma can be papers from related subject areas like Computer Science or Management (i.e. 2 of the 8 papers).

Full-time

Full-time students normally take four papers in semester 1 and papers in semester 2, as follows:

1.     Semester 1: Three IT papers and a 15 credit paper from another subject area, and
       Semester 2: Four IT papers

2.     OR Semester 1: Two IT papers and a 30 credit paper from another subject area, and
       Semester 2: Four IT papers

3.     OR Semester 1: Three IT papers and a 15 credit paper from another subject area, and
Semester 2: Three IT papers and a 15 credit paper from another subject area.

Most students choose option 1.

Part-time

Generally, part-time students follow the schedule for full-time students, but stretch it over two years, taking the equivalent of two papers per semester.

POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE (PGCert)

PG Certificate students take four taught papers in advanced topics in Information Systems.

Up to 25% of the Certificate can comprise papers from related subject areas like Computer Science or Management (i.e. 1 of the 4 papers). See Table below for offered papers.

A student with GPA of B or more can convert a PGCertSc to a PGDipInfSc by taking four extra IT Postgraduate papers (see Table below). To convert a PGCertSc to a postgraduate diploma with a research project usually requires an extra year of enrolment, as the project runs over semesters 1 and 2.

IT POSTGRADUATE PAPERS

As of Jan 2008, the IS Group was renamed the IT Group. This is because the College of Business is taking back the 157.xxx series of papers from the College of Science. Meanwhile, the IT Group now offers a brand new 158.xxx series of papers. While the 157.xxx series now has no Postgrad papers, the 158.xxx series still does. If you want IS/IT postgrad, choose 158 .xxx papers.
